Master Bedroom Bedding

this is embarrassing. just know that i DO NOT like this room. that is why i’m asking for your help. the only thing that must stay is the bed. i made it in a community ed. carpentry class. There are so many things this room needs but for now I’d like to focus on the bedding. We’ll get to the other stuff later. For now, help me transform this

using this color scheme.

i love the green. but i, of course, do not know how to make it happen.
do i get a blue bedspread like the rug?
how can i tie everything in without a bazillion pillows?

while surfing the net could you please keep an eye out for green bedding and accessories (bright green, grass green, not moss or light green)?

please help.

I am no design guru, but I would go with a brownish comforter then if you get sick of green you don't have to really replace that one.

I love the colors! plants would make a great green accent into the room.

Beautiful bed! Now your goal is to shop shop shop all weekend til you find a comforter you love. Sart with that, it will set the theme. Blue or green or whatever, you'll know it when you see it. I saw an HGTV show where they hung miorrors over the nightstand tables on either side of the bed. Check out pretty lamps.

Restoration Hardware has a lot of blue bedding that is a similar color to the rug in the picture. They are also mostly quilted, so you would get the same texture as the rug as well. I love the color scheme that you have picked out. I'll keep my out for some pretty green bedding accents.
(also the main thing I would want to fix in your bedroom is your large walls with nothing on them, of course you would probably want to center your wall decor around your bedding arrangement...)

A lot of store websites will let you shop by color as well. I found this pillow by shopping for pillows and throws in the color green on targets website.

Some ideas:
tin ceiling tiles to bring in brightness, the gray of the color scheme. Just google "tin ceiling tiles." Some on sale at mbossinc.com, but I don't know if that's a good price. You could paint the walls the bright white they have painted the ceiling, then.

The green Freja rug at Ikea is darling, but they only have it in stores, and we obviously don't have a store around here yet.

The adorable green buddha from
https://www.mxyplyzyk.com/v03/index2.php?cat=400 would make a charming, whimsical accent, and it's cheap.

They have some lovely throws at TJMaxx in Provo. I know I've seen some that are the blue of the rug of your DIY inspiration picture. Last I was there, they were on a rack in the front of the store over by men's. If you had a neutral brown comforter (as Liz wisely suggested), you could add a splash of color to it with a throw.

Good luck!

check out garnet hill for bedding, i love the new eileen fisher collection or if not in the budget, check out tj maxx, they have some great bedding options... Bella Luxe is one brand that makes a very simple, solid color and you can go from there

I like brighter colors, if your bed is a Queen, you can buy darling quilts at Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Teen. Some have those shades of green. I like Cath Kidstons site, she has darling bedding. Also, don't forget the large Home Goods Store on 33rd South and 1100 East SLC. They have beautiful quilts for sometimes $40.00. The bed is pretty! You definitely need a large piece of framed art over the bed or a collage of small pieces. To do a collage, I choose frames in the same color... I love Gold... My friend Katherine always chooses black and then almost no matter what you put in the frame, it will go. But, somehow you need some color and interest on that wall. If you are looking for cheap furniture pieces, my sister who is a school teacher has just done her apt using Furniture in a Box which is a place behind Dillards in Ogden. They have really cheap stuff, and some of it is cute. Don't be afraid to mix woods in furniture, it looks eclectic and interesting. Hope that helps. :) Tiffany

From experience, I do not recommend painting all of your walls the bright green color. Choose your wall color after choosing the bedding. As Liz said, if you get sick of the green, it's easier to replace the bedding rather than repaint the entire room.

I love Pottery Barn, especially what's in the on sale section:

http://www.potterybarn.com/products/p5184/index.cfm?pkey=csalbdg The quilt is no longer available, but you could buy two shams and coordinate with the shams.

This bedding set from Target might be more of what you're looking for:

Hey Katie
Your bed is awesome; I remember admiring it last time I was at your house. I can’t believe you made it yourself. To show it off, I wouldn’t go with a brown comforter—I think the grass green or blue you had in mind would be a great contrast to the brown wood. If it’s a platform bed, an easy way to bring in the bright green is to layer sheets and stack pillows like in this picture.

I like this—it’s very minimalist; you still use your regular sheets to sleep on, but then layer a couple on top instead of a comforter or duvet. Advantages are that you get two colors without overwhelming the room, and can alternate which color is on top if you want; also it’s pretty inexpensive to buy just a flat sheet and a couple pillow cases. Four regular-size pillows are plenty—two of each color. Brylane Home has lots of grandma stuff, but they also have solid sheets in tons of colors for decent prices. Try to ignore the grandma stuff.

Another place to get sheets/pillowcases sold individually in lots of colors is JC Penney. I know I totally sound like a grandma again, but grandmas are cheap and hence grandma stores are cheap.

Sorry about the novel-length comment.

Another thing—the rug on the magazine cover is from CB2 and is an easy way to bring in color. A lot of interior decorators don’t believe in putting a rug over carpet, but I do. If you’re not against it, you could consider throwing one down to bring in all the right colors. Home Decorators Collection has hundreds of rugs.

If you follow this link, look in the column in the far right that says “Narrow your search” and click on “contemporary rugs” under Decorating Style. That way you’ll only sort through half as many hideous ones to find the really great ones.
